Quarterback Seth Keith scrambles for a first down against the Splendora Wildcats in a recent game. Keith has been a tremendous help to the team in leadership and on offense.
A tremendous help to the Pirates came off of the heels of quarterback Seth Keith, who has shown leadership and abilities to make things happen out of nothing all season.
Keith, a senior, who stands at 5'9" and weighs 160 pounds, has been recognized by opponents as a threat because of his 4.5 speed, swift moves and his ability to throw the ball on the run. Keith is a outstanding athlete who also participates in track and baseball for the Shepherd Pirates.
Keith has been nominated in years past as a honorable mentioned athlete, because of the skills he possesses and his contribution to the Pirates' offense.
"We have had a rough start," said Keith. "I was out for four weeks and when I got back, I could tell that we were whole again. We have played in some close games and this team does not quit on my clock. We have to do whatever it takes to be successful."
Unfortunately, in May of 2008, the Pirates will be losing Keith to graduation. His main focus until then is to stay healthy and keep his grades up to get into a four-year college or university.
Keith was announced as the team captain at the beginning of the season and he loves the load that the Pirates' staff has given to him. His main goal throughout the season was to carry the team as far as he could and, as of now, he has done a great job.
"Everyone loves to win games, but it's tough losing the majority of the season and still coming out the next week fired up and ready to play another one," Keith said. "As a captain, my job is to keep the rest of the Pirates in that mood because everyone knows, you can't win them all."
Keith has his eye on attending the University of Houston to play football and is patiently waiting to hear from the college about playing at the next level. Keith is undecided right now on his college major, but he knows that it will be something to better himself as a person.
